Frequently Asked Questions
General guidance for choosing and operating bag and cartridge filtration equipment. Final specifications depend on process conditions.
How does a bag filter housing work?
Liquid flows through a replaceable bag supported by a basket. Particles are retained by the media, and filtered liquid exits the vessel.
How do I choose a bag micron rating?
Start with the downstream process requirement and the particle size to be captured. A coarser rating may reduce blockage frequency; confirm performance with a sample or trial when the process is critical.
What is the difference between #1 and #2 filter bags?
A #1 bag is approximately 7 × 17 inches; a #2 bag is approximately 7 × 32 inches and has about twice the filtration area. Check that the bag matches the housing basket.
Should I choose 304 or 316L stainless steel?
Selection depends on chloride content, acidity, temperature, cleaning chemicals and other corrosion conditions. 316L may be preferred for more corrosive service, but compatibility should be reviewed for the actual liquid.
When should a filter bag be changed?
Use system differential pressure and process flow as operating indicators. Change the bag when the limit set for your process is reached; there is no universal interval.
When should I use a quick-opening cover?
It can reduce access time where bags are changed frequently. The vessel must be isolated and fully depressurized before opening.
Should bag and cartridge filters be used together?
A bag filter can capture larger solids before a finer cartridge stage. This may extend cartridge life when the incoming liquid has a significant solids load.
Can the housing be customized?
Connection size, material, pressure rating, seal, surface finish, inlet orientation and mounting arrangement may be specified for a project.
Are all filter bags reusable?
No. Felt bags are commonly treated as consumables. Some mesh or metal media can be cleaned and reused if the application and cleaning method are suitable.
What information is needed for a recommendation?
Provide the liquid name, contaminants, flow rate, temperature, pressure, target particle size, connection standard and any downstream quality requirement.
