How to Select a Bag Filter Housing

Start with the process conditions. Flow, solids loading, micron rating, materials and connections all affect the final configuration.

Requests for a filter price are difficult to answer accurately without process information. A housing that is too small may create excessive pressure drop or require frequent maintenance. Use this checklist to prepare a useful selection request.

1. Describe the Liquid

Identify the liquid and any additives, suspended solids, salts, solvents or cleaning chemicals. Include operating and cleaning temperatures. These details help assess vessel, seal and filter-media compatibility.

2. Confirm Flow and Operating Pressure

Provide normal and peak flow rates, available pump pressure and the pressure limits of downstream equipment. Higher viscosity and solids loading can reduce practical capacity compared with clean-water reference values.

3. Define the Particle-Removal Goal

State the particle size to capture or the requirement of the next process step. A finer micron rating may improve retention but can increase pressure drop and change frequency. Select the coarsest rating that reliably meets the process requirement, then verify under actual conditions.

4. Choose Bag Count and Size

A #1 bag has about 0.25 m² of area; a #2 bag about 0.50 m². Multi-bag vessels increase area for higher flows or longer service intervals. Reference flow numbers are starting points only and need checking against the liquid and solids load.

5. Select Materials and Connections

Choose 304 or 316L stainless steel based on the fluid and corrosion conditions. Confirm seal material, flange or clamp standard, inlet orientation, drain and vent requirements, installation space and maintenance clearance.

Information to Include in a Quote Request

  • Liquid name and approximate composition
  • Contaminant type and expected solids loading
  • Normal and peak flow, operating pressure and temperature
  • Target micron rating or downstream quality requirement
  • Connection standard, material preference and installation constraints

With these inputs, compare a single-bag vessel, multi-bag vessel or bag-plus-cartridge arrangement. Send the process details for a configuration discussion.
