To obtain comparable industrial filter quotations, describe the liquid, contaminants, flow, pressure, temperature and maintenance requirements clearly. A pipe diameter or the phrase "wastewater treatment" is not enough to determine whether a housing design, filter media or wetted material is suitable.
Filters with the same connection size can have different housing designs, pressure ratings, bag or cartridge arrangements and accessories. When operating information is missing, an initial price is a provisional estimate. It should not be treated as a completed technical selection.
Use the checklist below when discussing bag filters, cartridge filters and replacement media with a supplier.
Eight details to prepare before requesting a quotation
| No. | Information | What to provide |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Liquid to be filtered | Liquid name, source and whether it contains oil or additives |
| 2 | Contaminants and objective | Particle appearance or source, and the downstream equipment or quality target to protect |
| 3 | Flow rate | Normal flow, peak flow, continuous or intermittent operation, and measurement units |
| 4 | Temperature and pressure | Normal and peak values, including possible changes during startup and shutdown |
| 5 | Chemical properties | Known pH, salt content, solvents and cleaning agents; clearly identify unknown conditions |
| 6 | Filtration requirement | Target particles or downstream requirements, together with the rating definition and verification method |
| 7 | Site connections and space | Pipe size, connection type, installation height, access for opening the housing or removing cartridges, and photos |
| 8 | Maintenance and acceptance | Available shutdown window, replacement procedure, sample requirements and acceptance criteria |
What to send when complete data is not available
Start with photos of the existing equipment nameplate, inlet and outlet piping, bag or cartridge labels and installation space. Include recent liquid sample photos, operating records and the process information you already know.
Mark uncertain values as unknown. This is more useful than guessing a number that looks precise. A single photograph cannot establish material compatibility, filtration rating or pressure capability when the liquid composition, pressure or temperature is unclear.
When comparing quotations, put the housing and wetted materials, equipment design, design conditions, media model and quantity, seals, gauges, valves and spare parts in the same comparison table. Also clarify the scope of transport, installation and after-sales support. Agree on the filtration objective and the acceptance method so that the quotations address the same operating conditions.
A practical way to compare supplier quotations
Check each proposal against the same application. Is the liquid the same? Does the stated flow represent normal operation or peak demand? Are operating pressure and temperature consistent? Are the bags or cartridges equivalent in size and specification? Does the price include spare media and transport?
If a quotation does not state a condition, list it as a point to clarify. Do not assume that it matches another supplier's proposal. When materials or filtration ratings differ, ask the supplier to explain the reason for the selection and its application limits. The site's process team should then assess whether the proposal meets the required duty.
For custom equipment, confirm that drawings show connection directions, overall dimensions, maintenance clearance and wetted-part requirements. Keep photos, dimensioned drawings and technical confirmations with the quotation. These records help with purchasing, acceptance and future replacement media orders.

Frequently asked questions
Can I request a quotation without a water-quality report? Yes. Start with the information available and identify the unknown conditions. Confirm the critical operating data before agreeing on a final specification.
Are flow rate and pipe diameter enough for selection? Usually not. The supplier also needs the liquid, contaminants, temperature, pressure, filtration objective and maintenance requirements.
